The whole process of root canal treatment is scary to a lot of people. However, when you have tooth decay and the cavity is so bad that it has managed to impact the nerves and tissues beyond the enamel, you have to see an endodontist. Endodontists specialize in treating soft tissues inside teeth, and they need to complete further education beyond standard dental school. If you are in Fresno, you may find clinics like Kathryn A. Siemens Family Dentistry that offer both generic and endodontic care. In this post, we are sharing more as when to see an endodontist and what to expect from the appointment.

When to see an endodontist?

Ideally, if you have confusing tooth pain, or there is considerable damage to the tooth enamel that you feel pain while eating or drinking hot and cold things, you should see an endodontist. If you have been regular with your dental checkups, your dentist will check for possible signs of tooth decay, or when there is considerable damage or impact to a tooth, they may recommend checking with an endodontist. For those who have undergone root canal treatments in the past, they may also need to check with an endodontist regularly.

It doesn’t have to be painful

It is a common misconception that visiting an endodontist has to be a painful experience. This is not true at all. Most experienced endodontists take adequate care to ensure that the whole root canal or related procedures do not hurt, and in case you have a really low threshold of pain, let your endodontist know.

Tooth decay is preventable, and even if you end up with considerable damage to nerves and tissues under the enamel, an endodontist should be able to help. Endodontists also try their best to retain the natural teeth through appropriate treatment.
